Who We Are

Bridgewater Presbyterian Church was founded June 10, 1878.  We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) and a member of the Shenandoah Presbytery.  This would be a "definition" of who we are, but to really know us, you will need to come and meet us in person!

Bridgewater is a community church and a destination church.  By that, we have many members living within just a couple of miles of the building; but we also have a goodly number of members who travel fifteen miles or more to be a part of the church.  We span the demographics of our area:  we are young and old, blue-collar and professional; life-long Presbyterians as well as new Presbyterians; women and men.  Our unifying trait is a desire to know God more fully, and to readily be able to witness our faith to the world.

We are a congregation deeply committed to a vision of God's openness to all people in our wonderful diversity, to the spiritual nourishment of both the head and the heart, and to making a difference in our community and world. Whether you worship with us, seek a spiritual home, yearn to make a difference in your life and community, attend an educational, cultural, or community event, or simply stop by to view the facilities, here you will find a place of hospitality, spiritual nurture, challenge, and energy.

On our bulletin cover you will read these words:  "To Know Christ and To Make Him Known."  This is our vision for our church.

Our beliefs rest within the Reformed Tradition as articulated in our Book of Confessions and Book of Order, both of which rest upon the Word of God as experienced in the Holy Bible.

Our mission is to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the world, making disciples, of course, but doing so by Word and Deed.

We are called to live as faithful servants of God as known to us in the Trinity, and to become the eyes, ears, hands and feet of God, in order that all may see, hear and experience God's grace and salvation.
